Referring to her song writing as “necessary self-expression”, Hanny J is a singer and guitarist from Brisbane, QLD who writes from the heart; sharing stories from her own perspective as well as others.
Influenced by diverse and unique musicians such as Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), The Stooges and power pop legends The Nerves, Hanny J rips your heart out by delivering bare bones honesty lyrics over melodic and catchy riffs.
Originally from the small town of Warwick, Qld Hanny J moved to Brisbane at 15 years old to start playing live shows with her first band, going on to land supports for acts such as The Vibrators (UK), RVIVR (USA), Magic Dirt and The Hard On’s. Hanny has focused on solo writing since 2013 and has since played locally and interstate and has opened shows for inspirational songwriters such as Erica Freas (RVIVR), Steve Lucas (X) and Wil Wagner (Smith Street Band). In 2016 she joined Melbourne punks Clowns on bass, and has been touring non-stop ever since.
